Description

This powderhorn was designed after a known surviving horn.  I have included pictures of the original horn.  This horn will have a gentle double twist, 3/4 to 1 inch of HAND FILED flats at the tip, an aged finial with ring and a 3/8 inch strap attached to it.  The fiddle peg will be hand carved down to look like the original in the picture. The base plug on these are cherry but will vary from cherry to walnut or oak, depending on what I have in stock. The base plug is attached with hand cut finish nails like the original pictured and many other originals.  If you want a specific type of wood put it in the order “notes section” and I will do my best to accommodate. It might delay building it to get the wood you want.

Size: They will vary from 11-14 inches.

Color: will vary as well.

Here is the description of the original horn from their web page:

The horn is 15″o/a with a brownish-green color and a really great patina. It is period inscribed “Kimbel Woods Horn 1758” and even retains it’s orig.stopper. Kimble Woods(note the spelling variance which was common at this time) was a “Minuteman” in Col. Doolittles Regt. from Athol, Mass. and responded to the “Lexington Alarm” which would have put him at Concord and the on going battle all the way back to Boston. He was also involved in the “Battle of Bennington”. According to the archives records in the State House In Boston Kimbel Woods was one of 156 Athol men who went on to serve in the Continental Army. Unfortunetly , the French & Indian War records are pretty sparse and I haven’t been able to find anything on him yet. We do know that men from Athol Mass. did participate in the Battles of Fort Ticondoroga and Crown Point. Seeing as the horn is dated 1758 , I think it’s safe to assume that one of those b where he inscribed his horn. A really great and quite Historic Powder Horn.
